Dutch conductor (1825-1909) whose career developed mostly in France. Set of two autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, as follows: A. Amsterdam, November 21, 1855. To a gentleman, concerning his opus 52 “Pensée de minuit”: “…Voir seulement que vous n’avez pas mis le moindre empressement à vous occuper un peu de ma “Pensée de Minuit” le morceau que vous m’avez gravé l’hiver dernier et qui obtint un si beau succès; bien que et en ayant jamais annoncé la publication dans votre Journal, ainsi que vous me l’aviez promis, on est allé jusqu’à refuser le morceau…”. 3 pp.  B. Dutch conductor (1825-1909) whose career developed mostly in France. Set of two letters signed (one autograph), both dated 1852 by the Dutch composer and conductor.  Letters are addressed to a gentlemen and concern a meeting and an upcoming performance: “…je prends la liberté de vous offrir ci-joint quelques invitations pour la soirée musicale que je donnerai le jeudi 29 Avril dans la Salle Herz pour l’audition de mes compositions…”.  Sizes are 8.2 x 5.1 (open size), 3 written pages in one folded sheet; and 5.2 x 8 inches, 1 page; both in very good condition.

Italian conductor and composer (1892-1967), one of the most important opera conductors of the 20th century. Nice black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment. Stamped on verso by photographer Anatole Saderman. Size is 3.75 x 5.5 inches, mounting traces on verso and slight paper loss on edges, otherwise in very good condition.

Belgian conductor (1885-1960) and violinist, who became a refugee during WWI in Great Britain. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Brussels, October 18, 1938, to maestro Tebaldini: "... I have not received the consignment you are talking about, i.e. the transcriptions (Frescobaldi-Bassani-Scarlatti-Legrenzi) I hope the consignment is not lost. As soon as I have a moment to see the Rapsodia di Pasqua, I will write to you...". Size is 8.3 x 10.6 inches, 1 written page, letterhead, folds, in very good condition.

Belgian conductor (1885-1930) and violinist, music director of the Montreal and Chicago Symphony Orchestras.Typed letter in French (untranslated) with the letterhead of the Belgian National Institute of Radio Difusion signed by her, dated in Brussels, 1932, mentioning he received a letter from Mr. Gershwin allowing the use of one of his music. Size is 8.2 x 10.7 inches, 1 page, folds, in very good condition.

Swiss conductor (1908-1986). Autograph note in French signed by him as “V. Desarzens” dated April 17, 1960, to architect Henri-Robert Von der Mühll (1898-1980) :  "... I, and, we don't know if we... It doesn't matter: we will have "noted" what we thought was necessary, simply necessary, to note. I'll leave you musically with all 4 hands.". Size is 5.8 x 4.1 inches, in excellent condition. Original envelope INCLUDED.

Russian-born Norwegian conductor (1891-1953) and pianist, whose career began as a pianist but moved to conducting in the  mid-1920s. Grogeous black and white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment, dated in Los Angeles, 1935.  Size is 5.3 x 7.4 inches, mounting traces on verso, otherwise in excellent condition.

German opera conductor (1891-1962). Autograph letter on cardboard, in German and signed by him, dated 21/I/1930, to a lady, concerning an upcoming concert engaging “Graf [Angelo] Scandiani" (1872-1930), baritone and director at La Scala.  Size is 5.8 x 4.5 inches, 2 written pages (front and back), storage holes, letterhead, in overall very good condition.

German conductor (1891-1962), a pupil of Fritz Steinbach and Hermann Abendroth. Fine 2-bar autograph music quote from "Tristan und Isolde" signed by him, matted together with a photo postcard of him. Total size is 8.2 x 13 inches, music quote is 3.75 x 2.3 inches (visible window size), photo postcard id 3.1 x 4.8 inches (visible window size), in excellent condition.

German opera conductor (1891-1962). Fine black-and-white photo postcard signed by him, dated in Dresden, 1943. Size is 3.3 x 5.3 inches, in excellent condition.

German conductor (1848-1905), pianist, and composer. Rare and fine cabinet photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1876; photo by Carl Kroh (Vienna). Size is 4.2 x 6.2 inches, in very good condition.

Italian conductor (1909-2001) whose career focused mostly on opera. His baton used in public performance at Teatro Colon signed and inscribed by him on its cork to Cirilo Grassi (Teatro Colon manager), dated 1953. Length is 17.5 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian conductor (1884-1941). Beautiful black-and-white photo postcard signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated in Rome, 1929. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, blind-stamp "SIAB" over the lower-right corner, in very good condition.

Italian conductor (1864-1919),  appeared in the most important Italian and foreign theaters, conducting both operas and symphonic music. Led over 9 world premieres including Mascagni's L'Amico Fritz and Giordano's Andrea Chenier.  Signed photograph mounted on cardboard, inscribed, dated in Rome in 1906. Printed signature on front of photographer F. Reale, Rome. Photo itself is 4 x 5.5 inches, total item is 6.25 x 8.5 inches. Vintage historic item in excellent condition!

Italian conductor (1906-1954) who made himself known for conducting at the age of four at the Trocadéro in Paris and at the age of six at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. Black-and-white photograph signed by him, dated 1913, shown at a podium. Size is 6.25 x 9.5 inches approximately, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned black-and-white photo postcard dated 1912, here shown as a kid in a conducting pose. Some autograph lines on verso by a third hand with the program of the concert at Teatro Costanzi (Rome) on November 11, 1912. American conductor (1894-1979), long-time leader of the Boston Pops Orchestra, specialized in both popular and light classical music. Signed photograph, inscribed and dated in 1979 in Boston. Size is 7.1 x 9 inches, in excellent condition.

Star German conductor (1886-1954), widely regarded as one of the greatest symphonic and operatic conductors of the 20th Century, and a major influence for many later conductors. A medium-sized album page signed by him. Size is 5.9 x 4.1 inches, central fold, storage holes, otherwise in excellent condition.

French conductor and composer (1862-1923). Autograph letter in French signed by him (dated ca. 1910) to the painter Alphonse Visconti about business. Size is 5.2 x 8.3 inches, 2 written pages, central fold, letterhead, in very good condition.

English conductor (b.1943), most famous for his interpretations of Baroque music on period instruments with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists. Signed photograph, stamped on verso by photographer Schaffler, Salzburg. Size is 4x6 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian conductor (1909-1996), who was also a pianist, composer, and musicologist. His career focused mostly on opera and recorded some of them. Fine black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1959; ink-stamped on verso by photographer Erio Piccagliani (Teatro Alla Scala). Size is 4.1 x 5.75 inches, in excellent condition.

Romanian conductor (1887-1964). Fine black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment in French dated in Rome, 1938. Size is 3.5 x 5.4 inches approx., in excellent condition.

Italian conductor (1914-2005) who developed an important international career conducting some of the world's major orchestras; his career spanned 54 years, retired in 1998. Set of 5 autograph letters signed, written between 1973 and 1984, mostly composed in Los Angeles, one written on his home stationary in Milan, all written in Italian, one of them sold with a hand-written English language translation, the rest are untranslated. Several envelopes are additionally included. Sizes range from 6 x 9 inches to 8.75 x 11.25 inches, several are 7.25 x 10.5 inches. All in excellent well-preserved condition. Not sold separately.

French-born conductor (1867-1958) and violinist. Nice sepia photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1946; ink-stamped on verso by photographer Nikolas Boris (Cincinnati). Size is 7.9 x 9.8 inches, in very good condition.

French conductor (1781-1849) and violinist, who became the founding conductor of the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in 1828.Fine printed debt acknowledgment filled by hand, certified with an attached autograph note by Habeneck, in favor of the clarinetist François Dacosta (1778-1866) for January 1842. Also signed by Dacosta and by the director of the Académie Royale de Musique Léon Pillet (1803-1868). Size is 8.1 x 10.1 inches, some smudges, overall age-toning, in very good condition.  

German conductor and composer (1849-1914), was the chief conductor in Lubec in the 1880s. Beautiful signed cabinet photo, dated in Lubeck in 1905, inscribed. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, in excellent condition.

Dutch-born American conductor (1881-1966), composer, and pianist. Nice black-and-white half-tone photograph (a full page from a program or magazine) signed by him.  Size is 7.6 x 10.7 inches, in excellent condition.

American conductor (1861-1933), violinist, and composer, who formed the Los Angeles Women's Orchestra in 1893 and the Los Angeles Symphony in 1897. Fine autograph letter signed by him, dated in Los Angeles, December 18, 1900, to the Italian violinist Achille Simonetti (1857-1928): “…Since I returned to America over four years ago, I have been doing more in the way of conducting and seem to have found that my forte lies more in that direction than in violin playing alone. (…) As soon as I arrived here from London my old position as chef d’orchestre in the principal theatre in this city, was offered to me, and I have kept it ever since…”. Size is 8.1 x 10.6 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), with letterhead of Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, creases, some dirt at the top, folds, in overall very good condition.

American baritone (b.1955), internationally celebrated for both opera and lieder and star Austrian conductor (1929-2016), particularly known for his historically informed performances of music from the Classical era and earlier. Double signed photograph, showing them in discussion, photo is stamped on verso by photographer Schaffler, Salzburg. Size is 4 x 6 inches, in excellent condition.

Finnish cellist (1896-1968) and conductor, whose career developed in Finland and the USA. Fine black-and-white half-tone photograph signed by him, shown young. Size is 6.25 x 8 inches, in excellent condition.

Austrian conductor and cellist (1929-2016), known for his historically informed performances, specialized in music of the Baroque period. Rare black-and-white photograph signed by him, shown early in his career as a Cellist in the orchestra. Size is 6 x 4 inches, in excellent condition.

German conductor and composer (1886-1978), Heger excelled in conducting both opera and symphonic music.  Large signed photo, inscribed after a performance of Lohengrin in 1929, mounted on a mat and stamped by photographer Studio Atelier Residenz, Vienna. Size is 8.5 x 12.5 inches, in excellent condition. 

German conductor (1872-1942), a prominent figure both in Europe and America. Hertz introduced Wagner´s music to the Metropolitan Opera of New York. Autograph music quote signed, from an unknown piece, dated in San Francisco in 1931. Size is 6.25 x 3.1 inches, fold in the center, in very good condition.

Prussian-born conductor (1872-1942), who rose to prominence while conducting Wagner at the Metropolitan Opera. Nice black-and-white photograph signed and dated by him in San Francisco, on February 1927; ink-stamped on verso by Keystone Photo Service (Los Angeles). Size is 7.3 x 9.3 inches, silvering around borders, otherwise in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a 4-page program for a performance of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra under his baton and signed by him over the upper-left corner. Size is 6.1 x 9 inches, folds, cracks, in fair condition.

Wiesbaden 27 October 1908, to an editor, giving biographical details and thanking him for his availability. B. July 16, 1888, to a gentleman, inviting him on behalf of Mrs. Wagner to his upcoming performances.  Sizes are 5.3 x 6.6 inches, 3 written pages in one folded sheet, folds, rust stains, in very good condition (1908), and 5.6 x 8.6 inches, 1 page, with letterhead, in very good condition. Czech-born classical composer and conductor (1921-2016), winner of the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Music. Autograph music quote on a card with 1 bar from his Sonata #2 for piano signed and inscribed by him, dated September 21, 1982. Size is 5 x 3 inches, in excellent condition.

American conductor (1890-1975), composer, and educator. Nice sepia photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1958; ink-stamped on verso by Blackstone Studio (New York). Size is 7.9 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition.

German conductor (1902-1987), best known for his interpretations of the music of Anton Bruckner, Carl Orff, and Johannes Brahms, among others. Gorgeous black-and-white photo postcard signed by him with a short sentiment dated 1940, shown in performance. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, soft folds due to framing on each corner, in overall very good condition.

French composer (1812-1860) and conductor. Set of two autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, as follows: A. Coblentz le 23 Août 1847. To the journalist and music publisher Léon Escudier (1821-1881): “…je vous envoie les traités signés puisqu’ils contiennent plusieurs petites choses sur les quelles j’ai des objections à faire…”. 3 pp. In-4. B. Not dated. To the director of the London Royal Opera House Frederick Gye (1810-1878): “…je crois donc qu’avant mon départ il ne serait pas inutile de nous entendre sur quelques petits points…”. 2 pp. In-8. ALSO INCLUDED is a printed first page of the 29th of August 1852 edition of the magazine “Gazzetta Musicale di Milano”. He was compelled to leave Paris to escape his creditors, and came to live in London (1840-1856), where he formed a good orchestra and conducted bands and orchestras at promenade concerts. These had existed in London's pleasure gardens since the mid-18th century, but under the direction of Jullien (and later Sir Arthur Sullivan) indoor proms became a feature of 19th-century musical life in London from 1838.
