Wagner vs Verdi – Brain vs Heart? You Decide June 23 2013

Wagner versus Verdi - Brain versus Heart

The Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, Germany is organizing two parades on June 28th, 2013, part of the celebration of both composer´s birth bicentennial (yes, both were born in 1813, Verdi in La Roncole, near Busetto, in today´s Italy and Wagner in Leipzig (...in the Jewish quarter of the city!), Germany).

This is what they say about it:

Munich's Max-Joseph-Platz will be transformed into an arena: The two musical giants Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner will be entering into a musical competition with each other.

The spectacle has been conceived by the Catalan theatre group La Fura dels Baus under

Carlus Padrissa, who has already directed Puccini's Turandot and Widmann's Babylon at the Bayerische Staatsoper, and Munich composer Moritz Eggert.

Two giant puppets will play the composers, supported by an armada of wind players, musicians from the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and the people of Munich.

A fun, original idea - only a bit biased: it will take place in Germany. Perhaps it should be Verdi vs. Wagner, since "V" precedes "W" in the alphabet.
