On the Hunt for The Sopranos Memorabilia: An Overview August 05 2022
More than 20 years ago, on Sunday, January 10, 1999, HBO broadcasted the pilot episode of ‘The Sopranos’. The series ran for two decades, and was centered around Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), a New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster, discussing with his psychiatrist the difficulties he faces trying to balance his family life with that of his role as the leader of a criminal organization.
That day of the initial broadcast will go down in history as the dawn of a new era for television. Although at the time, no one was aware of it, yet.
It took a little while for the series to pick up steam and gain a following, but once it did it changed television from being perceived as inferior to Hollywood and big
studio movies to the go-to place for prestige projects and exceptional acting done by major movie stars.
Today ‘The Sopranos’ is regarded by many as being one of the greatest television series of all time. It won several awards, including Peabody, Primetime Emmy, and Golden Globe Awards. And of course it made main actor James Gandolfini seem larger than life. As a result of the series’ success a lot of merchandise related to the show has been released around the world. This includes books, board and video games, soundtrack albums, action figures, and a whole lot more. In this article we are going to take a look at some of the most remarkable items we came across while on the hunt for Sopranos Memorabilia.
THE SOPRANOS MEMORABILIA
The Godfather and Bada Bing
Where is one of the first places you will go when looking for memorabilia of any kind? That’s right, eBay. So we typed those four letters into our browser and off we went on our journey for Sopranos Memorabilia.
The first thing we focused on was clothing. There sure are a lot of Sopranos t-shirts available on eBay, in various colors and sizes.
When looking at the various prints we noticed two things right away. Most of the t-shirts feature the show’s title, often accompanied by a cast photo. We also saw a few t-shirts that use the font from The Godfather (1972) to spell ‘The Sopranos’, clever. And not surprising of course, as both the film and the series are about a family of mobsters, in addition ‘The Sopranos’ had quite a few Godfather references trough out the series.
There are also several Bada Bing! t-shirts to be found. Bada Bing! is the name of a strip club in the series, and a key location for several events that happen in the show. A very funny t-shirt featuring a ‘The Simpsons’ version of ‘The Sopranos’ also caught our attention.
If you are looking for Sopranos caps there are quite a few to choose from. Most of them have the show’s title printed on them, but we also found a few Bada Bing! caps.
A truly original find was a beautiful Sopranos belt buckle. It is made of solid 925 sterling silver, and was designed by Pat Areias Sterling, who specializes in hand- rendered sterling silver jewelry and belt buckles.
Sopranos Family Cookbook and Other Reading Materials
When searching for Sopranos Memorabilia on Amazon we came across a Sopranos Family Cookbook. In this book Sopranos character Artie Bucco, la cucina's master chef, is your host as he presents you with all kinds of Italian recipes. The book was released in 2002, and a Kindle edition is also available if you like to do your reading on a digital device.
Another book that looks like a must-read for any Sopranos fan is ‘Woke Up This Morning: The Definitive Oral History of The Sopranos’. This book was written by Sopranos cast members Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti in the series, and by Steve Schirripa, who portrayed Bobby Baccalieri.
What looks like a very interesting tribute story to the series and its main character mob boss Tony, was written by Brett Martin. This book is called ‘The Sopranos: The Complete Book’ and was released in 2007 [See the first image provided for this blog entry].
I Want to Play a Game
No, we are not talking about the Jigsaw killer from the Saw series of films, although Tobin Bell, who portrayed the killer in these movies, did appear on ‘The Sopranos’ in season three. What we are actually referring to is a Sopranos edition of the famous board game Monopoly. With this game you can relive your favorite moments, characters, and locations from the series while having fun with your family.
Want to test out, or show off, your Sopranos knowledge to your friends instead? Then get out the official Sopranos trivia board game, which we came across on Amazon. Be warned however, some of the questions in this game are tricky, so you might want to consider a complete series re-watch before playing.
If you find yourself alone and still would like to play a game you should give the video game ‘The Sopranos: Road to Respect’ a try. This game was released in 2006, and its story takes place between the fifth and sixth season of the show. In the game you play as Tony’s illegitimate son Joey LaRocca and you will go on several missions, which more often than not result in plenty of violence. If you would like to play this game you will have to find yourself a PS2, as that is the only console it was released on.
Mobsters Celebrate Christmas too
Can’t seem to shake your Sopranos obsession, not even during the holidays? Then we got just the thing for you: Sopranos Christmas ornaments to decorate your tree with. You can find several on eBay, featuring cast photos or the Bada Bing! logo. And how about that Tony Soprano wearing a Christmas hat ornament? December can’t get here soon enough!.
More Cooking
Another very remarkable piece of Sopranos Memorabilia we came across is a bottle of Artie Bucco's Sauce. Yes that’s right, seems like Old Artie actually had his own sauce released, and we stumbled upon a bottle on eBay. Along with a bag of Artie Bucco's Ziti Rigati, still sealed. A nice addition to any Sopranos fan’s kitchen, wouldn’t you agree?
And if you like to do your cooking Sopranos style you can’t go wrong with a Sopranos apron, of which we found several on independent artist platform
Redbubble.
The Sopranos Baseball Connection
Throughout the series ‘The Sopranos’ featured many baseball references. Most
notably is the connection between Tony and his Uncle Junior during his childhood days. Uncle Junior taught young Tony how to play baseball, and would take him to Yankee games.
Because of these many references there were various Sopranos baseball bats released. If you are looking to add a Sopranos baseball bat to your collection there are plenty to choose from. They come in various colors and with different prints. Google is your friend.
What Time is it?
Another unique eBay find of Sopranos Memorabilia is a Sopranos LED Vinyl Clock, handmade from an actual vinyl record. There are actually several of these available, in different colors and with various prints.
And if you don’t like this design but are looking to add a Sopranos clock to your collection, head on over to independent artist platform Redbubble. They got you covered with thousands of Sopranos clocks.
Model Building
The last unique pieces of Sopranos Memorabilia we are going to take a look at today are these Sopranos model kits we found on Ebay. There seem to be two editions, with one being called ‘The coma dream’ while the other is called ‘The failed hit’. Both kits are based on scenes from the series, and are a nice addition to any Sopranos fans collection. Especially those who like to do some assembly and painting first.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about our journey being on the hunt for Sopranos Memorabilia, and the various, sometimes remarkable, items we came across during it. Maybe we gave you some ideas for Sopranos items you didn’t know you needed until now? And hopefully we inspired you to go find and add some nice pieces of memorabilia to your own collection. Thank you for reading.
