Cité de la Musique – Museum of Music in Paris – Our Visit August 13 2018
The Cité de la Musique or City of Music is a vast museum in Paris dedicated to music instruments and history. Located in the Parc de la Villette - a former slaughterhouse district - it is part of a complex of buildings that include the home of the Paris Philharmonic and the Conservatoire de Paris.
Museum displays a fantastic collection of classical music and ethnic instruments (over 4000 instruments on exhibit) dating back to the 15th century until our days, a music library and an auditorium. Audio devices are provided to visitors, so they can guide their visit with explanations about some selected items.
We saw a large amount of very rare instruments, besides the history and evolution of the most common ones. When in Paris, take at least a couple of hours to spend inside this fascinating museum, which is a bit away from the most popular attractions but can be easily reached with the Paris metro trains.
Here are some selected photographs from our visit - Enjoy!
