String Autographs & Memorabilia

Two autograph musical quotes signed on a single 8 x 8.5 inch album page from both Alfredo Piatti (full name "Carlos Alfredo Piatti"), Italian cellist, teacher and composer (1822-1901), dated in 1880, and Charles Halle - Anglo-German pianist,  conductor, and founder of The Hallé Orchestra in 1858 (1819-1895), dated in 1884. Rare vintage item in excellent condition!

Belgian concert pianist (1811-1875), one of the most admired pianists of the 1830s, and chair of the Piano Department of the Brussels Conservatoire in 1848. Set of 4 autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by the Belgian pianist. Two are 4.1 x 5.25 inches, the other 2 are 5.25 x 8.3 inches, in excellent condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.  

Ukrainian-Russian violoncellist (1877-1951), then conductor, with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra; emigrated in 1918; lived in the U.S. from 1922; conductor of the N.Y. Symphony Orchestra from 1934. Signed photo postcard, with a short sentiment, dated by him in 1907. Size is 3.3 x 5.3 inches, minor damage on upper right corner, otherwise in very good condition.

Swiss violinist (1878-1959). Black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment, shown studying a score. Size is 5.1 x 7.1 inches, some creases, in very good condition.

Hungarian violist and violinist (1893-1975). Fine sepia photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated December 1946. Size is 5 x 7 inches, small crease over the upper-left corner, in very good condition.

Russian-born German violinist (b.1983).  Beautiful larger size color photograph signed by her, shown in performance.  Size is 8.25 x 11.7 inches, in excellent condition.

Bulgarian violinist (1899-1976) and conductor, founder of The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and teacher. Signed photo of the first page of a small program for a concert in 1927 at Zagreb, Croatia. Full program with all pages and covers. Size is 5.5 x 9 inches, in very good condition. Very rare.

American violinist (1911-2007) pupil of Emanuel Ondricek, and winner of the Schubert Memorial Prize in 1929. Autograph signature on an album page dated Feb. 18, 1984. Size is 5.4 x 7.8 inches, in very good condition.

Conductor-less orchestra with an important international career. Photo of the orchestra, signed by 4 of its members. Size is 7 x 4.6 inches, in very good condition.

Scottish violist and violinist (1904-1982), English Soprano (1898-1984), signed album page containing both of their signatures along with those of several other unidentified artists. Size is 3.25 x 5.25 inches, small tear on the right not affecting any writing, otherwise in excellent condition.

Scottish violist (1904-1982) and teacher who performed with the London String Quartet from 1930 to 1945. Album page signed by him and dated in London, March 1936 at the Queen's Hall. Size is 4.7 x 3.75 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian string quartet founded in 1983. Photo signed by all four members: Andrea Vio (violin I), Alberto Battiston (violin II), Luca Marassutti (viola) and Angelo Zanin (cello). Size is 6.9 x 4.6 inches, in excellent condition.

Acclaimed Canadian-born French cellist, signed photo, 7 x 5 inches

The Quintetto Chighiano was an Italian musical ensemple especially active in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Nice group photograph signed by all 5 members Sergio Lorenzi (piano), Riccardo Brengola (1st violin), Arnoldo Apostoli (2nd violin), Tito Riccardi (viola) and Alain Meunier (violoncello). Size is 7 x 4.5 inches, stamped on verso by photographer Studio Grassi, Siena. In excellent condition

Spanish composer and violinist (1892-1961), considered "the finest successor of De Sarasate". Nice autograph drawing on an album page signed by him and dated in Philadelphia, 1928, with a drawing of conductor Pierre Monteux with a short text on verso. Size is 6.5 x 3.9 inches, in very good condition.

American violinist (1936-1972), considered one of the best young performers of the 20th century, and who tragically died at age 35. Nice card signed by him with a short greeting dated on November 22nd, 1961. Size is 5.75 x 3.3 inches, in excellent condition.

Julian Rachlin (born in 1974) is a Lithuanian-born violinist and violist. Photo Size 12 x 8.25 inches.

Serbian violinist (b.1985), with an important international career. Signed color photo, shown young. Size is 6.8 x 5 inches, in excellent condition.

French violist (1881-1975), conductor, and musicologist. Set of two autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, as follows: A. 10-III-26. To the music critic Henri Woollett (1864-1936), wishing him all the best for his new opera “Les Amants Byzantins” (1.3.26, Grand-Théâtre, Le Havre). 1 p. In-16. B. 12-XII-28. American violinist and composer (1890-1985). Autograph music quote signed with four bars from an unknown piece, dated in Montevideo, Uruguay, 1905.  Size is 6.5 x 3.7 inches, some ink transfer on the background, otherwise in very good condition.

American-born violinist and composer (1890-1985). Fine black and white photo postcard signed by her, shown very young, dated in London in 1905, at age 15. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition.

French cellist (1870-?) at the Concert Colonne, conductor and founder of the Schola Cantorum in Caen.  Autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated December 17, 1923, where he addresses the music critic Henri Woollett (1864-1936) arranging for a meeting: “…je (…) n’ai pu vous repondre plus tôt, à cause de mon Concert d’hier…”. Size is 8.3 x 10.7 inches, 1 written page, evident central fold, creases, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is his original printed business card with a short note in French written by him. Size is 3.9 x 2.3 inches, in excellent condition.

Cuban-born American violinist (1919-1988), Premiere Prix graduate from the Paris Conservatory at the age of sixteen and a prize-winner of the Ysaye International Violin Competition in Brussels. Signed photo shown in performance, inscribed, with a short sentiment and dated by him in 1945. Size is 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

American violinist (1918-2012), well known for his performances and recordings of Paganini's works. Signed photo postcard, inscribed. Size is 6 x 4 inches, in excellent condition.

German violinist (1910-1985), who was the concert master of the Berliner Philharmoniker in the Furtwangler era. Signed playbill announcing a concert as a soloist in 1939. One sheet sized 8 x 11.5 inches, storage holes and folds and minor cracks at the top, otherwise in good condition.

Italian violinist.  Autograph letter in Italian (untranslated) signed by him and dated 1891, mentioning he will try to get an autograph by Spontini or Pergolesi. Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches approx., 1 written page, overall rust tone, in very good condition.

German-born violinist and opera impresario (1842-1889), famous for his English opera company. 2-bar autograph music quote from an Elegy signed by him on a card. Size is 3 x 1.8 inches, mounting traces on verso, in overall very good condition.

Italian violinist (b.1947), with an important career as a teacher. Signed photo, sized 4.25 x 5.5 inches, tape on verso, in excellent condition.

Russian cellist and teacher (1927-2007), considered the best cellist of his generation and Russian baritone (b.1953), internationally acclaimed for interpreting the Slovenian and Italian repertory. Large signed photo, together with a third unidentified person who also signed the picture. Size is 12 x 8 inches, in very good condition.

Russian violinist (1897-1986), who performed popular music in concert halls and on radio. Signed composite photo-caricature, signed by him, inscribed and dated in 1966. Size is 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

Autograph letter in German signed by him, dated July 20, 1895, to the music critic Aldo Noseda, concerning the upcoming music season.  Size is 5.25 x 8.1 inches, 4 written pages in two separate sheets (front and back), folds, otherwise in very good condition.

Canadian string quartet, one of the most important chamber ensemble in Canada, founded in 1989.  Larger size black and white photo signed by all four members.  Size is 12 x 8 inches, in excellent condition.

French violinist and composer (1813-1890), autograph letter signed, written on 1 page of a folded 4 page document, written in English, dated in London in 1881. Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, small trace marks near but not within the text, otherwise in excellent condition.

American violinist and teacher of Dutch ascendent (1886-1944) and music teacher who toured extensively as a virtuoso violinist in concerts. Signed photo, inscribed and dated in 1918. Size is 7 x 9.5 inches, minor silvering over borders, otherwise in very good condition.

Star Spanish violin virtuoso (1844-1908) and composer, considered one of the greatest of the 19th century, whose music is still today regularly performed by top violinists.  1-bar autograph music quote signed by him, dated in London, June 14, 1890. Size is 3.8 x 6 inches, St. James Hall (London) letterhead, minor stains, mounting traces on verso, in very good condition.

Pablo M. M. de Sarasate y Navasqués (1844-1908) was a star Spanish violin virtuoso and composer, considered one of the greatest of the 19th century, whose music is still regularly performed by top violinists.  5-bar autograph music quote on an album page signed by him and dated October 21, 1894. Size is 6.9 x 4.8 inches, minor rust stains in all four borders, in very good condition.
