Italian composer (1857-1919) and librettist, who produced numerous operas and songs throughout his career but it was his opera Pagliacci (1892) that remained his lasting contribution, despite attempts to escape the shadow of his greatest success.

Autograph letter in Italian (sold with translation) signed by the composer, dated in Pallanza, December 17, 1897, addressed to French publisher Henri Georges Heugel. Size is 5 x 8 inches, 2 pages written on opposite sides of one sheet, folds, minor stains, in overall excellent condition.
In this letter, Leoncavallo mentions his own 'La Bohème' and comments about Massenet's opera 'Sapho' world premiered two weeks before.
