Autograph letter in German (sold with translation and transcription) signed by Wagner, dated May 19, 1859, addressed to the wife of the German composer August Roeckel (1814-1876) with very interesting content.

1 sheet written on both sides, size is 5.4 x 8.6 inches, folds, blind-stamped by Hotel Schweizerhof (Lucerne), mailed on May 20, 1859, in excellent condition. Envelope included.

August Roeckel was a composer and conductor very active in Weimar, and a conspirator during the 1849 revolution. Roeckel met Wagner in Dresden where Wagner was a Music Director. After the 1849 uprising, Roeckel was captured and Wagner fled to Zurich. Roeckel was sentenced to death but his sentence was later commuted to solitary confinement for a couple of years. 

ALSO INCLUDED is a 4-page handwritten text by an unknown hand (probably a former owner of the letter) discussing about the letter's content.

Returns & Exchanges

Unsatisfactory items may be returned within 14 days of receipt for your choice of a store credit or a full refund. In order to qualify for a refund, items must first be returned in the exact same condition they were shipped. By default we ship via USPS, and provide the option to ship via FedEx or UPS. Shipping and handling costs are not refundable for any items that were already shipped, either returned or not. At our discretion, a restocking and relisting fee of up to USD 40 could be applied for some returned items, although this is very rarely applied.
