Theater and Stage Autographs

English playwright (1916-2002) and screenwriter, mostly known for his crime-related works. Dial M for Murder is probably his most famous plot, and was taken to film by Alfred Hitchcock. Signed program for a performance of this play in theater, at the Nassau Repertory Theater, Nov-Dec, 1964. Signed and inscribed on the first page by Knott, who inscribed his autograph to Craig Dudley, one of the actors in the play.  Autograph is on the first page of the program, which has been separated and mounted on a cardboard mat, next to the front cover. This is not a full program, only the cast page and the front cover. Mat is 12.75 x 11.25 inches, in excellent condition.

French stage and film actor (1865-1941), active in the Comedie Francaise from 1891 to 1935. Signed postcard photograph, shown as himself signed and inscribed on front, dated in 1930, with additional signature and more extensive inscription on verso. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, with jagged edges and some paper loss on edges, otherwise in very good condition. 

German stage actor. Gorgeous black-and-white half-tone photograph of the actor shown as Petrus in the play "The Passion", signed by him and dated in Oberammergau, Germany, 1910.  Size is 8.3 x 11.25 inches, mounting traces on verso, small missing piece over the lower-right corner, otherwise in excellent condition. The city of Oberammergau stages the play "The Passion" every ten years, as a city tradition since the end of the XVII century.

German actors who played the roles of Jesus, Peter, and Judas in one of the first films about the life of Jesus during the silent films era. Beautiful photograph signed by the three actors whose names are printed over the bottom of the photograph, dated by Anton Lang in 1924, by Mayr in 1922.  Size is 7.1 x 4.5 inches, in excellent condition.

British-born American stage actress (1899-1991), producer, director, translator, and author; active 1914-1984. A fine set of 2 autograph letters written on cards and signed by her, one of them dated 1967. Each one's size is 5 x 3.9 inches, in excellent condition. The original envelope is ALSO INCLUDED.

American actress (b.1939). Beautiful black-and-white photograph signed by her, shown in a theater play; ink-stamped on verso by photographer Jay Thompson.  Size is 7.8 x 9.4 inches, minor damage on the front near the the signature, small loss of photographic paper, otherwise in very good condition.

British actress (1913-1967) and British actor (1907-1989). Front cover of a program for a performance of the play "Titus Andronicus" at the Stoll Theatre, London, on July 3rd, 1957 (according to ink-markings over the top border), signed by both artists.  ALSO INCLUDED is a photograph of both artists shown in this very play. Late in her life Martinot would fall victim to mental illness and spend her last few years confined to psychiatric institutions. Fine cabinet photograph signed by her, dated in 1890. Program for a performance of the musical "Sugar Babies" (1979-1983) signed by her and dated on July 5th, 1981.  Size is 9 x 11.8 inches, full program with all pages and covers, minor stains, otherwise in very good condition.

Polish actress (1880-1966).  Large signed photo shown in role, dated in Varese, 1910.  Photo is mounted on a photographer mat by Carlo De Marchi, Milan.  Total size is 10.25 x 15.8 inches, actual photo is 6.5 x 9.3 inches, loss of paper on corners, some tape residues on top of photo and spotted rust, in very good condition.

French actress (1867-1938). Her business card signed by her with her initials and a short sentiment in French. Size is 3.5 x 2.1 inches, overall soft age-toning, tape residues on corners, otherwise in very good condition.

American comedic actress (1871-1946). Set of two wonderful sepia photographs signed and inscribed by her, shown as herself.  Each one's size is 7.8 x 8.9 inches (trimmed from a larger size), one of them has a loss of paper over the lower-left corner and cracks over the upper border; both in good condition. Italian stage actor and playwright (1851-1919), played character and leading comedy parts in leading theatrical companies between 1871 and 1884, later opened several of his own companies and appeared in a number of early silent films.
